Destiny 2 UX Redesign

Aim of this project
This project was based on current user interface of Destiny 2 (March 2025)
Destiny 2 is a free to play first-person shooter. The game feature RPG and MMO elements with various team size activities including PvP activities.
This project aim to correct potential UX frustrations and streamline menus for faster navigation.
Work & Responsibilities
-
Using Information gathered through User Research across various media types.
-
Creating a flow chart, post-it investigation and various wireframes for further research.
-
Iteration upon low and high fidelity wireframes based on user feedback.
-
Creation of an interactive prototype to demonstrate UX and design goals.

Tools & Software

Prototype & Results
Below is the final version of the new menu which combines all information from the previous 'Directory' and 'Character' tabs. Each menu was iterated upon through each stage of development from scamps to high fidelity. I successfully,
-
Created a new navigation header which accommodates all pages and provides brief page descriptions.
-
Combined 'Collections' and 'Inventory' to reduce steps in managing player gear.
-
Designed a new 'Social' menu layout to contain all necessary social elements in one simple page to reduce total menu count.
-
Adjusted the 'Character' menu to display important character stats in the foreground to reduce time spent locating information, as well as bring further attention to sub-menus that were previously easy to miss, especially to newer players.
-
Designed a new 'Orbit' menu to include more commonly accessed shortcuts and more compact player emblems to reduce screen clutter.

User Personas

Persona 1
-
Daily Solo player
-
Logs on to acquire the current best gear
-
Stays up to date with the game and is very familiar with core and seasonal systems
Challenge:
To improve user experience by improving the flow of menus. Offer a way to organise inventories to suit large quantities of items.

Persona 2
-
Daily player who enjoys playing end-game content with their clanmates
-
Tries to be as efficient as possible to maximise loot earned for time spent in-game
-
Familiar with core systems but doesn't follow temporary seasonal systems
Challenge:
Make gear management more streamline to minimise time spent in menus instead of playing. Also to increase the speed of social elements such as adding friends, sending/receiving invites and accessing forms of matchmaking.

Persona 3
-
Prioritises newest seasonal story content
-
Plays the newest activities on lower difficulties instead of 'farming' end-game content
-
Isn't worried about optimised gear loadouts
-
Doesn't fully understand core systems
Challenge:
To simplify most commonly used menus and prevent cognitive overload that may discourage users from trying to engage in core systems

Low Fidelity Wireframes

High Fidelity Wireframes
The high fidelity stage of development involved me adding various icons and imagery to make the wireframes feel like they could belong in Destiny 2. For this project I wanted to keep the design very accurate to the source while still providing new and beneficial choices to streamline core menus and most importantly the speed in which a user can navigate the UI. This will also result in simplifying the navigation for new and returning players
